Drunk driving is considered a serious offense in all states. The DUI statute in the state where the violation occurred will determine the extent of the punishment for a first-time offender. In majority of the United States the legal blood alcohol level is anything under .08. A blood alcohol level that is greater then .08 means that you are legally too intoxicated to safely operate an automobile.
